4 Ways To Keep The F.I.R.E. of God Burning In Your Heart

“And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?” (Luke 24:32)

When we first got saved, our heart was on fire for God. But over time it is easy to let that fire die down, and even go out, if we are not careful. Here are four ways to keep the F.I.R.E. of God burning in your heart.

FFORGET Past Failures.

The quickest way to put out the fire of God in your heart is by focusing on all the past failures in your life. Rather, focus on present successes. Part of Paul’s success was, “forgetting those things which are behind” (Phil. 3:13).

IINTENSIFY Your Walk With God.

Complacency is an enemy of a growing Christian. You cannot remain neutral and still grow. Strive to grow closer and be more faithful to God each day.

RREPENT of Sin Immediately.

Nothing will quench God’s fire in a person’s heart any faster than sin will! You cannot be on fire for God AND harbor sin in your heart at the same time. It is impossible. So, in order to keep God’s fire burning in your heart, you must forsake sin immediately.

EEMPHASIZE God’s Word In Your Life.

As Jesus was walking along with these two, discouraged believers, verse 27 says that Jesus “expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.” It was after they had heard the Word of God, not just read, but expounded, that they said, “Did not our heart burn within us?” Read and study God’s Word daily.

God wants our hearts to stay on fire for Him. If you will do these four simple things, it will help keep the F.I.R.E. of God burning in your heart!
