5 Ways To S.E.R.V.E. Your Spouse

“..by love serve one another.” (Gal. 5:13)

The world we live in mocks the idea of serving others. No one wants to serve; everyone wants to be served. But as Christians, we are called to serve one another. If we are to have a servant’s hearts toward others, I believe that also includes our spouse. Here are five ways to S.E.R.V.E. your spouse.

SSTOP Keeping Score.

Keeping score only produces selfishness. Jesus said, “Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself…” (Mark 12:31). You have no closer neighbor than your spouse. A great marriage is NOT 50/50. A great marriage is 100/100!

EESTABLISH Good Communication.

A marriage is only as good as the communication between spouses. There is a difference between TALKING TO your spouse and COMMUNICATING WITH your spouse. Talking is just saying words. Communication means the other person understands what you are meaning by your words.

RREMEMBER, You Are Serving God By Serving Your Spouse.

The Bible says, “And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;” (Col. 3:23). Therefore, how you serve your spouse is a reflection of how you are serving God.

VVIGILANTLY Protect The Priority of Your Marriage.

You need a strong marriage. Your children need you to have a strong marriage. Don’t get so focused on your children that you neglect your spouse. Make your spouse and your marriage a priority. Remember…by your example you are teaching your children what kind of marriage THEY should have one day.

EEDIFY Your Spouse Daily.

To edify someone means to build them up; to encourage them. Paul said, “Wherefore…edify one another” (1Thess. 5:11). Look for ways every day to encourage and build your spouse up. Praise them every chance you get.

When you do these five things to S.E.R.V.E. your spouse, you will be surprised how your marriage will grow!
