The Truth About Unity

(Ps. 133:1) “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!”

If there is one thing that is missing in the average church, today, it is unity. Unity is what the Lord DESIRES and what Satan DREADS! Satan knows that when a church is united together, there is nothing…and I mean NOTHING…that it cannot accomplish!

In this short verse, we learn two things about Christian unity:

1) WE SEE THE BLESSEDNESS OF UNITY

David says that unity is “good” and “pleasant.” The church that is united together is a “good” and “pleasant” place to be. But the opposite is also true. A church filled with division is anything BUT “good” and “pleasant” to be around.

The sweet fragrance of unity will draw people to a church, and the foul stench of division will drive others away!

2) WE SEE THE BASIS OF UNITY

This kind of unity is for believers only. David said it is reserved “for brethren.” The world does not know this kind of unity. They think unity is uniformity.

Not so for believers. We do not unite with others for the sake of unity. Our unity MUST be based on Christ and His truth (His Word). Some think we should unite with all religions simply for the sake of unity. Not so!

Remember this…TRUTH is always more important than UNITY. For example: at Armageddon, the world will be united, but they will be united against Christ! So, while unity is important, never throw truth away for the sake of unity.

So, the truth about unity is…there can be NO real unity without God’s truth!
