“..he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve.” (Luke 22:26)
In Luke 22, we see that the disciples were having a bad day. There was strife between them because they were arguing. What were they arguing about? (v.24) says they were arguing over “which of them should be accounted the greatest.”
They were men just like us; prone to the same temptation of pride that we are prone to. They were fighting over who should be the greatest disciple in the Kingdom! They wanted to know who would have the most power and rule over the others.
Can you believe that? How silly. How childish. How…like us!
So, how did Jesus respond to this childish behavior? What was His solution?
Jesus reminded them that that is a worldly focus. The world is concerned about ruling over others but that is not how a Christian is to live. Jesus said, “But ye shall not be so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve.”
