“Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth:” (John 16:13)
Sailors tell the story that for 24 years (from 1888 to 1912), a certain dolphin would guide their ships through the French Pass, a dangerous channel near New Zealand. Up until this dolphin got involved, many ships had been shipwrecked because of the many big rocks and strong currents in that area.
This dolphin’s direction was so reliable that when ships reached the channel they would literally wait for him to appear before they would proceed. The dolphin would always stay with the ship, playfully swimming alongside, until it was safely across the bay.
There are no telling how many human lives were saved by the actions of this dolphin.
Then one day a drunken passenger onboard a ship the dolphin was guiding drew a gun and shot the dolphin. When the crew saw blood coming from the dolphin, they nearly killed the drunk man. After being shot, the dolphin disappeared and ships had to navigate the treacherous waters alone.
But, to their surprise, a few weeks later the dolphin returned, apparently recovered from his wound, and resumed his work of guiding ships through the channel.
As Christians, we have something even better than a dolphin, we have the Holy Spirit to guide us through the treacherous waters of this world. And the best part is…He will NEVER leave us!
The Bible says the Holy Spirit was given to us to guide us “into all truth.” Thank the Lord, this morning, for the gift of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, and the guidance He gives.
