“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” (Ps. 46:1)
Some people have the mistaken assumption that once a person gets saved they will no longer have any problems.
Anyone who tells you that the Christian life is a problem-free life is promoting a false version of Christianity. In fact, when a person gets saved, they have a NEW problem they didn’t have before….Satan is now after them!
The truth is, real Christianity isn’t a PROBLEM-FREE life but it is a PROMISE-FILLED life! Sure we face problems, but unlike unbelievers, when we go through trials we have God’s presence to comfort us, God’s truth to guide us, and God’s promises to carry us.
The psalmist reminds us of the promise that no matter what we face, “God is our refuge and strength.”
FIRST—It Is A PERSONAL Promise.
In (v.1a) He said, “God is our refuge…” I am glad that God is MY refuge and strength. I am glad He knows what I am going through.
SECOND—It Is A POWERFUL Promise.
Next, he said, “God is our refuge and strength…” The word “refuge” means shelter. God is our shelter when the storms of life come our way. He is also the strength we need to endure the storms.
THIRD—It Is A PERMANENT Promise.
In (v.2-3) He says, “Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah.”
Traumatic events will come in life. The question is, will you allow them to flatten you or fortify you? If you need help, call on Jesus right now! He is “a very present help in trouble.”
