This week we have been focusing on specific ways in which to pray for our nation and its leaders. Today, we will end this series of devotionals looking at how we can specifically pray for the members of Congress and the Supreme Court.
They especially need our prayers because the Bible says that Satan seeks to influence world leaders. That is why Ephesian 6:12 says that “we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
PRAYING FOR MEMBERS OF CONGRESS
“I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.” (1Tim. 2:1-2)
“Father, I pray that the members of Congress will seek Your wisdom and direction. I pray they will seek Your face and honor Your Word. A house divided against itself cannot stand, therefore, I pray for them to be unified in righteousness for the sake of the nation. I pray for those in Congress who are saved that they might stand boldly for right and I pray for those who are lost that You will turn their hearts to You and be saved.”
PRAYING FOR MEMBERS OF THE SUPREME COURT
Give me now wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people: for who can judge this thy people, that is so great?” (2Chron. 1:10)
“Father, I pray that each Justice will recognize their own inadequacy apart from You. I pray they will fear God and glorify Him through their actions (Prov. 9:10). And I pray that the Supreme Court would honor biblical values in their rulings and decisions (Matt. 6:10).”
