“Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof:” (2Tim. 3:5)
Years ago, one of America’s biggest department stores tried marketing a doll in the form of Baby Jesus. The advertisements described it as being “washable, cuddly, and unbreakable” and it was packaged in straw, satin, and plastic. To the department store executives, it looked like a surefire winner; a real moneymaker. But they were wrong. It didn’t sell. In a last-ditch effort to get rid of the dolls, one of the store managers placed a huge sign in the store window that read:
JESUS CHRIST:
Marked Down 50%
Get Him While You Can!
Sadly, that same marketing strategy is being used today by many popular TV and radio hucksters! They have watered down the Gospel in hopes of drawing a crowd and are offering nothing more than a “Marked Down, 50% Off, Get Him While You Can” type of Jesus.
But the truth is…Christianity costs! To be a true follower of Jesus Christ you must pay the price! Jesus said, “If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me” (Mark 16:24).
The world is tired of seeing fakes and phonies. What they need to see is something real! How you live today will say a lot about who God is. Will you show the world there is a God who is alive and well, or you will give them nothing more than a water-down version of a discounted Jesus?
