“A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.” (James 1:8)
In the verses before this, James tells us to ask God for wisdom. “Why is that important,” you ask? Because “A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.” A double-minded person is one who says they want the wisdom of God, but then goes to this person or that person to get their opinion, too.
A double-minded person is one who lacks godly wisdom. Therefore, James said in (v.5), “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.” We need wisdom so that we will not become double-minded, trusting God one minute and doubting Him the next.
The danger in being “double-minded” is that you become “unstable” in all your ways. You will have no stability in your life. Why? Because you have no solid foundation; it’s constantly changing as people’s opinions change.
Wisdom is being able to correctly interpret our circumstances in light of what God is trying to accomplish in our lives. Therefore, James says we need wisdom in order to interpret our circumstances properly, or else we will stay frustrated and discouraged.
Determine to get your wisdom from God, not man, so that your life will be built upon God’s Word which will never let you down!
