A God of the Details

“But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.” (Mark 10:30)

Details matter. A wealthy woman who was traveling overseas saw a bracelet she thought was was too irresistible not to buy. So she sent her husband this short cable: “Have found wonderful bracelet. Price $75,000. May I buy it?” Her husband promptly wired back this response: “No, price too high.” But the cable operator accidentally omitted the comma, so the woman received the message: “No price too high.” She bought it. What a difference a small comma made!

The Bible says that God knows the number of “the very hairs of your head.” In other words, God is a God of details. Details matter to God. John R. Rice said, “God cares about the details. If you comb out some hairs in the morning, the record in Heaven in changed.”

FIRST—God NOTICES the Little Things.

I can relate to this because I am also a detail-oriented person. I tend to notice little things that are out of place or things that don’t match up. Well, when you look at creation you see that God took care of the tiniest little details. Because of this, He notices the little things, too. What an encouragement to know that no matter how “small” you think something is that you are doing for the Lord, He notices it! He sees it and will one day reward it.

SECOND—God CARES about the Little Things.

God isn’t just concerned with the “big picture,” He is concerned with every aspect of your life. The verse before our text verse says, “Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.” God cares so much for His creation that He notices every bird that falls from the sky! Wow!

Listen, friend, if God cares enough to see every bird that falls, how much more does He care about you? How much more does He have His loving eyes on your life? (v.31) says, “Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.” Don’t let Satan tell you that you are small in God’s eyes. Just because man does not recognize your efforts; just because man does not applaud you, God sees what you are doing. Keep on doing what you are doing for God; it’s not going unnoticed.
