Boy, Am I Full!

“And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.” (1John 1:4)

Not too long ago we celebrated Thanksgiving. If there is one thing we all do every year on Thanksgiving, it’s eat too much! It is so hard to see a table full of good food, followed by another table of sweet desserts, and not be tempted to try a little bit of everything! If you are like me, you don’t WALK away from the Thanksgiving Day table after eating, you WOBBLE away.

Now, it takes a while for my body to become hungry after such a big meal, but eventually my body is depleted of that meal and I need to eat again. When you think about it, there are many things in life we constantly deplete that must be replenished. We eventually run out of gas in our car and must refill. We use up our energy throughout the day and must sleep at night. Every few seconds we use up the oxygen we breathed in and must breathe in new oxygen.

Likewise, our joy can be depleted, if we are not careful. The Bible says “these things” were written that our joy “may be full.” What “things”? The Bible! God’s Word is where we find the joy of the Lord. Our problem is we try to find joy apart from Jesus. When you try to find joy in the things of this world, you will find yourself on empty pretty quickly.

So, as a helpful reminder, John says to us, “these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.”

God doesn’t want you living on empty, He wants you living on full. Spend some time in His Word and get full again.
