Bright Light Christians

“That ye may…shine as lights in the world;” (Phil. 2:15)

When writing to the Philippian believers, Paul encourages them to be “blameless” and “without rebuke” and to “shine as lights in the world.” In other words, we are to be bright light Christians!

FIRST—Bright lights attract.

Turn on a lightbulb outside at night and just watch how quickly it attracts a multitude of gnats and other flying insects. There is something about light that is attractive to these creatures. Likewise, since the Bible says that Jesus is the light of the world, the light of our lives should attract others to Jesus, not repel them.

SECOND—Bright lights guide the way.

Imagine trying to drive your car at night without using the headlights. That would not only be crazy, it would be dangerous! Why, because the headlights light the path for us to travel. Our lives should shine brightly in this dark world so that others can plainly see the way to Jesus!

THIRD—Bright lights repel darkness.

No amount of darkness can put out a light. You may be tempted to think that your little light in this vast world of darkness doesn’t matter, but it does! One single star doesn’t produce much light, but when combined with millions of others, they can light up the sky!

One final thought. Stars don’t try to be stars. When you see them twinkling in the night sky, they are just are being themselves. Don’t try to be something you aren’t. Walk with God and let Him shine through you as you go about your day, today.
