“The Church gives more time, thought, and money to recreation and sport than to prayer.” – Samuel Chadwick
What a convicting thought! The average church calls their Wednesday night meeting a “Prayer Meeting” yet there is very little praying going on. We have singing and we have preaching, but very little time is dedicated to praying. And sadly, I am afraid that most pastors know that if people knew that a majority of the service time would be given only to prayer, their Wednesday night attendance would drop drastically!
But Jesus said, “My house shall be called the house of prayer” (Matt. 21:13). In other words, the Lord’s house ought to be a place where prayer is expected and where it is practiced! Dr. Tom Williams said, “To write ‘House of Prayer’ over the top of the average church would be a lie.”
May our churches once again become a “house of prayer.”
