“For your heart is your life, and your life can only be altered by that which is the real working of your heart. And if your prayer is only a form of words, made by the skill of other people, such a prayer can no more change you into a good man, than an actor upon the stage, who speaks kingly language, is thereby made to be a king…” — William Law
God doesn’t want us praying from our head but from our heart. He isn’t interested in empty, repetitious phrases we repeat to Him without any thought. In fact, Jesus said, “..when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking” (Matt. 6:7).
When you pray today, remember that you are speaking to the God of all creation, yet you are also talking to your loving, heavenly Father who waits eagerly to hear what you have to say. Just tell Him what’s on your heart. You can share your deepest fears with Him because He understands.
