Day #3 – (30 Days of Prayer)

“This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.” (Mark 9:29)

Andrew Murray said, “Prayer is reaching out and after the unseen; fasting is letting go of all that is seen and temporal. Fasting helps express, deepens, confirms the resolution that we are ready to sacrifice anything, even ourselves, to attain what we seek for the kingdom of God.”

Jesus plainly told His disciples that there are some answers to prayer that are only attained through fasting, along with prayer. Prayer is not always easy, but it is much easier than fasting while praying. Our flesh doesn’t like to deprive itself, which is just another indication of why it prevails so much with God.

Fasting is basically setting aside something you really want, need, or enjoy to show how serious you are about attaining through prayer that which you seek. For some, it is fasting food. For another, it may mean fasting TV, entertainment or maybe social media for a time.

We are encouraging everyone who can, to set aside some time to fast several meals each week during this 30 Day Prayer Challenge. If your health prevents it, that is okay. Otherwise, maybe you could fast for one meal every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday until our Prayer Revival and let’s see what God might do.
