Fake News; Fake Christians

“Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying, This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.” (Matt. 15:7-8)

We hear a lot about “Fake News” today and have all seen the many sensational storylines which turned out to be false. We must also be constantly on guard against email or phone scams which are also fake.

The sad fact is, we also see a lot of “Fake News” in the church, as well. I am talking about the many hypocrites who call themselves “Christians” yet do not live the Christian life apart from church. They act like the most spiritual person you ever met, while at church. But, come Monday morning, they are as carnal as the worldly crowd they associate with. Jesus said, This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.”

So, how can we tell who a REAL Christian is? It’s really pretty simple. John tells us that those who are true blue Christians will have an “outward evidence” of their belief. Their walk will match their talk!

“If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:” (1John 1:6)

What about you? Do you call yourself a Christian? How would someone know that fact beyond hearing you talking about it? Could a complete stranger observe you for a day and know, based on your life, that you are a Christian?
