Gardening With God

“And the LORD God planted a garden…And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight…” (Gen. 2:8-9)

Did you know that God is a gardener? The first thing He did after He created man was to create a garden in which to put man. God wanted man to garden with Him!

What a great picture of the Christian life, today. Your heart is the field, and God is the Gardener.

There are two main actions a gardener must take in order to ensure a beautiful garden. Ironically, it is the same two things we as Christians must do to ensure we grow and mature as believers.

A Good Garden Requires FEEDING.

One of the most important steps in gardening is watering and fertilizing your plants. They need nutrients or they will not grow.

Likewise, we must feed ourselves daily on God’s Word if we expect to grow like we should. Just like a plant will dry up and die if it does not get enough water, we will dry up and die, spiritually, without a daily walk with God.

What are you feeding on? Is your life drying up, spiritually?

A Good Garden Requires WEEDING.

The natural enemy of a plant is weeds. If left unattended, weeds will grow faster and taller than the plants because they steal the nutrients away from the plants.

Satan loves to plant weeds into our lives; things that will try to steal away our spiritual life so that we dry up and die.

Can you think of anything right now that you may have allowed in your life that is hindering you from being all God wants you to be? Maybe it is a person. Maybe it is a hobby. Maybe it is anger or bitterness.

Maybe you need to spending some time feeding and weeding so that you can once again grow and be a healthy Christian again.
