“They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing;” (Ps. 92:14)
It is a reality of life; if you live long enough, at some point or another you will face old age. Of course, no one ever sees themselves as being old; that’s aways “other” people. John Burroughs said, “Old age is always ten years older than I am.”
While there are many negatives to getting old, there are also positives to getting older. One woman who turned 102 said, “The best thing about being a hundred and two years old is there is no peer pressure!”
There are many definitions of old age. One person defined old age by saying, “Old age is when it takes you longer to get over a good time than to have it.” Someone else said, “Old age is where your secrets are safe with your friends because they can’t remember them either!”
Of course, now that I am already in my fifties and beginning to merge into the old-age lane of life, my favorite quote is: “I’m not aging, I’m just increasing in value.”
As a person gets older, the world tends to set them aside in favor of the more youthful ones. But that is not true with God. God made the sunset to be just as beautiful as the sunrise. God loves older people. After all, He is called “the Ancient of days” (Dan.7:9).
Although your physical strength may not be what it once was, God says your spiritual strength can get stronger! Paul said, “though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day” (2Cor. 4:16).
Don’t let this world determine your usefulness for God. God’s plan for senior living is not for you to re-TIRE, but for you to re-FIRE!
