“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” (Phil. 4:13)
This verse is a popular verse to many. The problem is, we often focus on the wrong words in this verse.
Some focus on “I.” They think everything is about them. I’ve got news for you, the universe doesn’t revolve around you. While you do have a part in His great plan, His plan includes everyone, not just you.
Some like to focus on the words: “I can do all things.” They love the idea that no matter what THEY want to accomplish in life, they should be able to do it, even if it is not God’s will. That is not what those words mean. God is not some magical Genie in a bottle forced to grant your every wish just so you can live your life YOUR way and not His way.
The correct words to focus on in this verse are “through Christ.” We try to do more through the flesh than through Christ. All of the power we need in life comes from Christ. Therefore, if Jesus is not a part of your life, this verse does not apply to you.
There Is Power To OVERCOME.
God has given every believer the power to overcome the trials we may face in this world. Jesus said in (John 16:33) “In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”
There Is Power To ENDURE.
Sometimes it isn’t God’s will for us to overcome our trial but for us to endure our trial. God never removed Paul’s thorn in the flesh, but rather said to Paul “My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness (2Cor. 12:9).
Trying to live the Christian life without Christ is as useless as trying to drive a car without gas. Don’t try to live without Jesus, because it is only THROUGH CHRIST that you can live the victorious life.
