It’s A Matter of Life and Death!

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof” (Prov 18:21).

It doesn’t matter how small you may be physically, you have great power today. With your tongue (the words that you say), you can either build someone UP or tear someone DOWN.

Friendships have been devastated, families have been divided, and churches have been destroyed all because of someone’s tongue. No wonder James says “the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity…and it is set on fire of hell.” Left uncontrolled, it can become “an unruly evil, full of deadly poison” (James 3:6-8).

In other words, we should be as cautious with our tongue as we would be if we were walking around with a loaded gun in our hands. Why? Because “Death and life are in the power of the tongue.”

No place should be we be more guarded than on Facebook. Many spew their venomous words for the world to see on Facebook, not realizing the damage they are doing to the many others who are reading those words.

When we post hurtful and hateful words (even to those who have done us wrong) we are carelessly hurting others in the process as if we were randomly shooting a gun in the midst of a crowded room!

Maybe you HAVE been hurt by someone. Maybe they are completely at fault. If you are a Christian, you are still not justified by using angry words back at them.

In fact, in an attempt to let off steam, you are really just showing others the anger and bitterness in your own heart. That’s why Jesus said, “..for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.” In other words, by what comes out of your mouth (or what you post on Facebook), you show others what is really in your heart.

Today, decide to build someone up. Don’t let what others say about you control what you say back at them. If you have given your HEART to Christ, give Him your TONGUE as well!
