In the Bible, God always seemed to use the ordinary.
~ He used an ordinary ROD in the hand of Moses.
~ He used 5 ordinary LOAVES & 2 ordinary FISHES to feed 5,000 people.
~ He used an ordinary JAWBONE of a ordinary DONKEY, in the hand of Samson to slay 1,000 Philistines.
~ He used an ordinary ROCK in an ordinary SLING to defeat Goliath!
Even the twelve apostles were just ordinary people like the rest of us.
“Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.” – Acts 4:13
Why does God delight in using ordinary, everyday people in his service? Because when the world sees God’s power at work through an ordinary person they realize it wasn’t the person, but God IN the person that made the difference! When everyone saw the miracles those “unlearned and ignorant” disciples were doing they “marveled..and..took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.”
“But there’s nothing special or spectacular about me. Surely God could never use me,” you might say. If that’s what you think, be encouraged—worthless nobodies are just the kind of people God uses! In fact…if you think about it, that’s all He has to work with! After all, even the most powerful prophets like Elijah and Elisha were worthless nobodies without God.
As my pastor used to say, “Without God, we are nothing but a zero with the rim knocked off…we are nothing!” You may not have much to offer God. Well, the great thing is…all He wants you to offer Him is YOURSELF! He will take care of the rest. Then, when you are fully surrendered to Him, you will find that God can do more through you than you ever dreamed possible!
