“Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle’s.” (Ps. 103:5)
They say that every year an eagle will cast off their old feathers and new ones come on and the bird becomes young again; it is able to fly again like it did when it was young.
If we are not careful, our old feathers will become a hindrance instead of a help to us. As I began to read this verse, I began to think of some old feathers WE need to cast off.
FEATHERS OF DOUBT
Some of us have feathers of doubt we need to cast off; doubting that God will do what He said He will do; doubting He can meet our needs; doubting He can save that person who seems too “sinful” for Him to save.
FEATHERS OF LAZINESS
The Bible has a lot to say about laziness. Not much good comes from being lazy. Colossians 3:23 says, “And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men…” In other words, we should put our heart into anything we do for God.
But some have some feathers of laziness they need to cast off. They are lazy about going to church regularly; lazy about reading the Bible; lazy about giving the Gospel out.
FEATHERS OF BITTERNESS
Do you still have feathers of bitterness that should be cast off? Are you bitter towards someone who did you wrong? Are you bitter about circumstances in your life over which you have no control?
Maybe you have some of these feathers in your life that need to be cast off. Remember, it isn’t until after the eagles cast off the old feathers that their youth is renewed.
