“Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity…” (Titus 2:14)
It is not unusual to open your utility bill, only to find it higher than you expected it to be. But The News & Observer reported that Kieran Healy, of Hillsborough, North Carolina, received a water bill that would give a person a heart attack! The statement said that he owed 100 million dollars! Yes, you read that right. It seems there was a mistake made from an outside company which sends out payment reminder emails. Jokingly, Mr. Healy asked if he could make installment payments.
Could you imagine receiving such a bill, only to find out you really did owe that much? There would be no possible way to pay back that large of a bill.
Well, the Bible says that man owes an even LARGER debt…the debt of SIN! And no amount of money or good works will ever pay it off. Thankfully Jesus came and bore our sin on the cross and, as a result, He paid our sin debt in full! The Bible says He “gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity…”
There will not be one person in heaven who can brag that they got there on their own. No one will boast of paying for their own sins. But for all eternity, the saints of every age will worship and glorify Jesus Christ alone for His death, burial, and resurrection which secured our eternal life!
Don’t wait until you get to heaven. Take some time this morning to thank Him and praise Him for paying your sin debt in full!
