“..Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.” (1Thess. 1:10)
The story is told about one of the early settlers of the western prairies. One day the people saw a cloud of smoke on the horizon and, to the people’s horror, they recognized it as a prairie fire. Being fanned by a strong wind, it was quickly headed their way and would surely consume them and everything they owned.
As the flames grew larger and got closer, one man shocked everyone by quickly setting fire to the grass in front of them. His fire soon grew in size and widened its path leaving a charred and burned area behind.
As soon as the place was burned over, all of the people quickly moved to the grassless area and, standing in the midst of the burned area, saw the fire sweep down upon them until it reached the burned-over place and stopped!
There was nothing left to burn and they were safe while the fire swept around them. They were saved because they were in the “burned-over place!”
Listen, friend, the fires of God’s judgment are quickly descending upon a wicked world, but praise God He has provided a “burned-over place!” At Calvary, the fire of God’s justice was met by Jesus Christ. There, He bore our sin and fully paid our punishment.
We are now saved when we accept Christ’s payment for our sin and receive Him as our Savior. We are spared from the wrath of God by taking our stand by faith in the “burned-over place” of Calvary!
How about you? Are you standing in God’s “burned-over place?” Have you trusted Him as YOUR Lord and Savior? Don’t delay. Some people who plan to accept Christ at the eleventh hour die at ten-thirty!
