“And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.” (Mark 1:35)
Jesus is our greatest example of how to pray. No one knew how to pray like Jesus. In fact, the disciples saw this in His life. When they heard Him pray, they knew that His prayer life was on an entirely different level than theirs was. That is why they said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray” (Luke 11:1).
The prayer life of Jesus teaches us many things. But one of the biggest things we learn is that prayer will cost us something. There is a price to prayer.
For the next few days, I want you to notice three things prayer will cost you.
FIRST—Prayer Will Cost You TIME
The Bible says that when Jesus prayed, He got up “a great while before day…” He wasn’t lazy. He got up and He went out early in the morning to talk to the Father in prayer.
I believe He prayed early in the morning to prepare Himself for the rest of the day. We do not know what circumstances will befall us throughout each day, but God does.
Therefore, we needn’t get alone with Him before our day begins so that we can prepare ourselves for what may come our way.
“If I fail to spend two hours in prayer each morning, the Devil gets the victory through the day.” — Martin Luther
You don’t have to spend two hours a day, but you need to have SOME time set aside to get alone with God so He can give you your marching orders for the day.
Tomorrow, we will look at another thing prayer will cost you.
