When Jesus Sat Down

“…when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;” (Heb. 1:3)

In the Old Testament, the priests would make continual sacrifices for sin. One sacrifice alone was never enough. But, when speaking of Jesus’ sacrifice for our sins, the Bible says, He “needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people’s: for this he did once, when he offered up himself” (Heb. 7:27). Why only once? Because He was the perfect sacrifice! No other sacrifice was needed.

It is interesting to note that the Old Testament priests never sat down—there were no seats in the sanctuary because they offered sacrifices day in and day out. Yet the writer of Hebrews says that Jesus sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;”

Because the Old Testament sacrifices were temporary, more had to be offered constantly. But when Jesus, the PERFECT sacrifice, offered Himself, the Bible says He went back to the Father and “sat down.” Wow! What a picture! In other words, what the Old Testament sacrifices could not do, Jesus did once and for all!

But Jesus is not done working. He is now our Advocate with the Father, interceding on our behalf. Romans 8:34 says, “Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.”

Stop trusting in other things which aren’t perfect. Put your trust in the One Who is the perfect, complete sacrifice for your sin…JESUS CHRIST!
