A Spiritual Workout

“..work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.” (Phil. 2:12)

Working out and becoming fit has become a multi-million dollar industry. You can find virtually every type of workout program imaginable…and even some you can’t imagine. There are aerobics classes, spin classes, yoga classes, and even a karaoke spin class where you sing while cycling! There are workouts with dogs, and even workouts with goats called “Goat Yoga.” Whew! Just trying to list them all was a workout!

But there was one workout missing…a spiritual workout. The Bible says you are to “work out your own salvation.” Notice it doesn’t say to work FOR, but work OUT your salvation. The Bible clearly says that we cannot work FOR our salvation because it is “Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us…” (Titus 3:5).

You see, as God works our salvation IN us, we are to work it OUT. He does the internal part, but we do the external part. As He works in our hearts, then we let what He did in us come out of us for the world to see. So, every day we should be working out our own salvation.

FIRST—We should work it out at HOME.

A Christianity that doesn’t work at home will not work anywhere! We are to be Christians at home before we are Christians anywhere else. If anyone should see Christ at work in our lives, it should be our family.

SECOND—We should work it out at WORK or SCHOOL.

It should start in the home, but it should spread to every other area of our lives. Those with whom we work, or go to school, should see Christ in our lives by the way we walk, and talk, and relate to others.

This morning, don’t forget your spiritual workout. The Lord is counting on you to let the world see Jesus in you!
