A Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On!

There I was, sitting in my office at home working when all of the sudden it happened. I felt the house shake almost as if several tractor-trailer trucks had just driven by. It wasn’t until we turned on the news that we found out that what we had just experienced was an EARTHQUAKE!

Now, if you are from California, or maybe Japan, then earthquakes are nothing new for you…BUT THIS IS NORTH CAROLINA! Well, small as it might have been compared to other earthquakes, it was big enough to get my attention.

God used an earthquake in the Bible to get someone’s attention, too. God had allowed Paul and Silas to not only be thrown into prison, but into maximum security! Here they were trying to live right and they get locked up! have you ever felt like you were being punished for doing right? It was mid-night, the darkest part of the night and the darkest for Paul and Silas spiritually.

But God was trying to reach a hardened jailer and the only way to reach him was by sending his servants to jail. So, they just began praying and praising God and that’s when it happened.

“And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one’s bands were loosed.(Acts 16:26)

When you begin praying and praising God in your mid-night hour, it gets God’s attention!

The earthquake was so strong that is was felt in the inner prison. No one could get OUT…but God got IN! No place is too remote that God can’t reach us in our hour of need. That place was a strong-hold, but no place is too strong for God to shake. Would to God we would let Him shake some strong-hold’s in OUR lives!

Then, the Bible says, “and every one’s bands were loosed.” God has the power to loose you from the things that have you bound. 2 Corinthians 10:4 says, “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;”

The jailer had a stronghold in his life that was keeping him from God. God had to produce a SHAKE-UP for the jailer to WAKE-UP!

Do the circumstances in your life seem all shaken up? it could be God trying to SHAKE things up to WAKE you up. What should you do?

1. Keep PRAYING – Paul and Silas didn’t wait until the answer came to begin praying. They prayed BEFORE the walls were shaken.

2. Keep PRAISING. They sang, too! Now if you think it is hard to PRAY in your mid-night hour, trying SINGING. It’s not easy, but it shows a trust in God that you know He is working all things for your good and His glory.

Look at your life. Is there some sin that needs to be dealt with? Then take heed to God’s warning and make things right, today. Otherwise there just might continue to be a whole lotta shakin’ goin’ on!
