Bob The Builder

“Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:” (Matt. 7:24)

My wife and I are in the midst of building a house. Let me rephrase that…my wife and I are in the process of having someone else build our house for us. I am no builder! I could probably build a birdhouse…maybe…after watching a YouTube video about it. But I do not have the knowledge, the tools, nor the expertise it takes to take on such a huge project like building a house.

I never knew so much went into building a house. And while I haven’t done any of the building, myself, I have learned through this process a lot of what you SHOULD do and what you SHOULD NOT do to build the right kind of house. I do know the most important part of a house is the foundation. If the foundation is not solid, then it will affect the rest of the house.

In our text, Jesus is giving an illustration about two men who built themselves a house. One man was a wise builder and the other man was a foolish builder. One built his house upon a rock and the other foolishly built his house on the sinking sand.

Now, on the outside, both houses probably looked equally good. They both may have been painted nicely and beautifully decorated. But it wasn’t until “the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house” that you saw which house was strong enough to withstand the storm and which one crumbled.

If you want your home to withstand the storms of life that are coming your way, you better be building it on the right foundation. And I not talking about concrete and cinder block. I am talking about building your home on the solid Rock, Jesus Christ! If not, your home will never make it.
