Here’s Your Opportunity

Opportunity is something every successful person wants to take advantage of.  No one wants to miss a perfect opportunity to get that job they are after or purchase that item on sale for a limited time. Many people have hurt themselves financially and in other ways because they missed, or failed to take advantage of, an opportunity that came their way.

The Bible speaks of a special opportunity that we as believers need to be looking for. Paul wrote in Galatians 6:10, “As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.”

I am not against door-to-door visitation and soul winning at all, but I believe we should not ever just “limit” our Christian witness to only a set visitation time. We should be looking for every “opportunity” God sends our way to “do good unto all men.”  Doing good can be a broad term. What does it mean to do good?

I believe it can start with helping to meet a physical need, but eventually the goal is to help with their spiritual need. The best way we can ever help anyone is by pointing them to Christ.

Sure, we should strive to help people, as our resources permit, with money, food, clothing, and a host of other physical needs they may have. But ultimately, what good have we done them if we have only filled their belly but left their soul empty?

Today, look for any opportunity God may present for you to live out Christ in front of a lost and dying world. The world is looking for hope in this hopeless day. Washington can’t give hope. Neither Obama nor Romney can give true hope. Neither the Democrats nor Republicans can offer true hope. So, the world needs to see the hope that comes through Jesus Christ.

Today, someone may cross your path with a need (physical or spiritual). Listen closely. You just might hear God say to you, “Here’s your opportunity!”
