How To Get A Word From God

And the LORD said unto Moses, Write thou these words: for after the tenor of these words I have made a covenant with thee and with Israel.” (Ex. 34:27)

Moses was invited by God up on Mt. Sinai for a one-on-one, face-to-face meeting with God! Wow! Can you imagine having that privilege? The end result of that meeting was that Moses got a word from God. He got direction from God.

So, what steps did Moses take in order to get that word? What can we do to get a word from God, too?

FIRST—You must spend time with God.

(v.28) says Moses was in God’s presence for forty days and forty nights! This was no 5-minute meeting. I am not saying you must spend that much time with God before He will speak to you. But the lesson is, we cannot rush our time in God’s presence and expect to get a word from Him.

SECOND—Get into a spirit of worship.

After spending that much time in God’s presence, (v.8) says Moses “bowed his head…and worshipped.” Getting into God’s presence will lead you into a spirit of worship which will prepare your heart to receive His word.

THIRD—Repent of known sin.

Finally, in (v.9) Moses repented of the sins of Israel. He said, “pardon our iniquity and our sin.” In order to receive a word from God, there must be a repentance of any known sin in our lives. Sin prevents God from hearing our prayers which will prevent us from hearing from God.

Every day we need a fresh word from God. Take time to get into His presence this morning and get the word you need!
