How To Survive A Marriage Earthquake

“What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.” (Mark 10:9)

Earthquakes can be devastating. They can tear buildings apart and destroy lives. Likewise, many marriages have been destroyed because both spouses did not know how to survive a marriage earthquake.

I Googled, “How To Survive An Earthquake” and found that the advice given would also work for a marriage earthquake too! So, how can your marriage survive?

1. DROP TO YOUR KNEES

The first thing they say to do during an earthquake is to drop to your knees before the earthquake knocks you down. Likewise, the best way for your marriage to survive is for you to drop to your knees in prayer. Take your earth-shattering trial to God.

2. TAKE COVER IMMEDIATELY

Whether it is under a table or a sturdy desk, cover yourself immediately. The same is true, spiritually. In order to survive your marriage earthquake, you must cover your head (mind). Protect your thoughts by reading and meditating on God’s Word and what HE says about your marriage.

3. HOLD ON TIGHT

During an earthquake, it is wise to stay put and hold on until the shaking stops. Likewise, a marriage earthquake is the time to hold on tighter to your spouse and to your commitment to the marriage. It is not the time to throw in the towel and leave.

4. CHECK FOR INJURIES AND RENDER AID

After an earthquake has ended, render aid to those who have been injured. A marriage earthquake can devastate a marriage, leaving both parties injured emotionally and spiritually. The best way for your marriage to survive is by taking time to heal together.

5. PREPARE FOR THE NEXT EARTHQUAKE AHEAD OF TIME

One of the best ways to survive an earthquake is by having a plan for what to do and by having an emergency kit already prepared ahead of time. Many do not survive a marriage earthquake because they simply have not prepared themselves ahead of time.

God’s Word gives us the tools we need to survive the earth-shattering trials that come our way. Stay close to Him and you will make it through.
