I Can’t Get It Clean

“But we are all as an unclean thing…” (Isa. 64:6)

One day, as a man was walking down the street, he noticed a store owner was washing the large plate-glass window of his store. The entire window was clean except for one soiled spot which the owner could not seem to remove no matter how much soap, water, or scrubbing he used.

Finally, after a while of working hard at it, one of his employees walked up to him and said, “You’ll never get that spot clean, sir.”

“Listen, young man,” said the store owner, “I am the boss. I know more than you do about cleaning windows.”
“Yes sir,” said the boy, “But you will not get that spot clean.”
Out of frustration, the man replied, “And what makes you think that?”
The boy said, “Because that soiled spot is on the inside!”

Man, in his attempt to earn his way to Heaven, tries to clean his soul from the stain of sin. He tries washing it with tears of sorrow. He tries scrubbing it with the soap of good works. He tries cleaning himself up through the efforts of religion. But all of this is to no avail. Why? Because the stain of sin is on the inside!

How many are in Hell, today, because they thought they could wash away their own sin through their good deeds? John makes it very clear that it is only “the blood of Jesus Christ” which “cleanseth us from all sin.” (1John 1:7)

If you are not saved, trust in Jesus Christ as your Savior, today, and let Him wash away your sin once and for all!
