Love In A Letter

“Ye see how large a letter I have written unto you with mine own hand.” (Gal. 6:11)

Little Ruby was like most four-year-olds; she loved to run, sing, and play. But one day she started complaining about a pain she was having in her knees. Ruby’s parents took her in for tests but were not prepared for the shocking results. It was determined that little Ruby had cancer—stage 4 cancer to be exact. Ruby was in serious trouble and was quickly admitted to the hospital.

Due to the seriousness of her condition, Ruby’s hospital stay went longer and longer. She ended up staying over into the Christmas season which, for a little child, was very difficult.

One of Ruby’s nurses came up with the idea to place a mailbox outside her room so family could send letters full of prayers and encouragement to her. They even posted on Facebook about Ruby’s condition and that’s when the volume of mail coming in from friends and complete strangers surprised everyone, most of all Ruby. With each letter received (more than 100,000 total), Ruby grew a little more encouraged, and she finally got to go home.

The Apostle Paul knew that there is something about the power of encouragement. In his letters to the churches, he is always writing to encourage and edify other believers.

If we are not careful, we can get so busy living our own lives and dealing with our own problems that we fail to encourage others. Few people still write hand-written letters, but you can still make a phone call or send an encouraging text to someone that would lift their spirits.

Ask the Lord who it is that YOU could encourage today because one day it will be YOU who needs the encouragement.
