(Luke 8:39) “Return to thine own house, and shew how great things God hath done unto thee. “
After Jesus cast out a demon from a man, the man asked Jesus if he could go with Him. He no doubt thought of all the people he could impact with his amazing story of deliverance; all the people he could be an example to of the mighty power of Jesus.
But Jesus’ response to this man’s request was, “Return to thine house.” In others words, the most important place you can be an example is at home, first. The most important place where you can live out Jesus is at home, first.
We live in a day where we want to impress everyone. Through social media, we craft perfectly-worded posts with perfectly-posed pictures in order to make everyone think we’ve got it all together. But the people who really know us; the people who matter most are those at home.
It’s not what everyone else THINKS about us that matters; it’s what our family at home KNOWS of us that is important. Jesus was telling this man that his testimony should begin at home.
Forget about your testimony at work, if your testimony at home is not right. Forget about trying to share Jesus on the job, if you aren’t sharing Him at home, first. You really want to show Jesus in your life? Start at home! You really want to show the love of Christ to someone? Start at home! You really want to demonstrate the power of forgiveness? Start at home!
If you REALLY want to impact someone for Jesus…start at home!
