Wherever You Go, He’s There

“Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?” (Ps. 139:7)

One of Satan’s favorites tactics is to make us think that we are all alone. Not only does he tell us that friends and family have forsaken us, but he wants us to believe that even God has forsaken us, too. But there are too many examples in the Bible that say otherwise.

For example: Adam and Eve could not hide from God in the Garden. Jonah could not hide from God in a boat, and Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego could not escape God’s presence in the fiery furnace. In our text verse this morning, even the psalmist said, “Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?”

Why? The Bible gives us many different names for God. He is called Jehovah-jireh, which means “the God who provides.” He is called Jehovah-shalom, which means “the God of peace.” He is called Jehovah-rophe, which means “Jehovah heals.” But He is also called Jehovah-shammah, which means the LORD is there!

What a name: “The LORD is there!” How encouraging it should be to know that you cannot escape the presence of God for He is everywhere! In that fiery furnace, with the three Hebrew children, He was there. Among the thick, green, trees of the Garden of Eden with Adam and Eve, He was there. Even way down in the depths of the ocean, inside the belly of a whale with Jonah, HE WAS THERE!

In fact, that is what Christmas is all about—the fact that God, Who is everywhere, took on flesh and came to us! As you celebrate the birth of Jesus, be ENCOURAGED because there is not a place you can go, today, where God is not at. Give Him praise and glory this morning because wherever you go, He is there!
