“Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.” (Prov. 20:1)
Just when they thought they had seen it all, police officers in Wichita Falls, Texas, responded to a call from Walmart employees saying there was a woman driving around the parking lot on a cart while drinking wine from a Pringles can! Yes, you read that right.
Now, I can’t even begin to imagine what that woman was thinking. I don’t have a clue what thoughts were running through her head at the time. But I do know that she was proving the Bible to be true by her very actions because the Bible clearly says that “Wine is a mocker…”
Maybe that woman was under a lot of stress at work or at home. Maybe she just thought that she would drink a little to calm her nerves. Whatever the reason behind her decision to drink, I’m sure she never thought she would end up doing donuts in the Walmart parking lot while drinking from a Pringles can! Can you imagine the look on her face when she saw her picture on TV the next morning, after she had sobered up? #embarrassed
But that is how Satan works. He tells people that what they need is some substance in their system in order to deal with the pressures of life. When what they really need is not some SUBSTANCE, but the SAVIOUR!
Only Jesus can give us the peace and strength to face the daily challenges of life. We do not need a substance to be able to cope because, as Christians, we have something better…the Holy Spirit!
“And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;” (Eph. 5:18)
Alcohol will make a fool out of you and it shows those around you that you have no better resource with which to deal with life’s problems than the world has. Don’t run to a substance, turn to Jesus. He can give you what no substance can!
