An Anchor for Your Soul

“Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast…” (Heb. 6:19)

I am not into boating, although I enjoy riding in a boat. And I certainly am not a sailor. But I do know enough about boats and ships to know that they each need an anchor. An anchor is there for one main purpose…to steady the boat and to keep it from drifting and getting off course.

God’s Word says that in this dark day in which we live, “we have..an anchor of the soul.” And, praise God, His anchor is “sure and stedfast.”

What is this “anchor of the soul” that God has given to us? It is the promise of God’s immutability. In (v.17) it says, “Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath:” Then, in (v.18) it says, “That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie…” The word “immutable” simply means God never changes! It means that when He promises us something, it will surely come to pass. Why? Because it is “impossible for God to lie.”

When the storms are beating on your ship and you feel like you are about to go under, just remember that God has given you “an anchor of the soul.” You have something in your soul that is “sure and stedfast; something that will keep you steady in the rough waters of life.

Take some time this morning to thank Him for never changing. Thank Him for the “anchor of the soul” He has given to you and that, in Him, you can weather any storm!
