How Effective Is Your Word?

“By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house…” (Heb. 11:7)

Both Noah and Lot lived just before a terrible judgment fell from God. Noah was preparing for a flood and Lot was preparing for God’s judgment to fall on Sodom and Gomorrah, where he and his family lived. Two different men facing two different judgments, with two different outcomes.

1. When NOAH Spoke, His Family MOVED.

Noah’s family was saved from the flood because they heeded their father’s word. Noah was warning them about something they had never even heard of before…water falling from the sky. Yet, Noah’s word carried weight with them. Why? The Bible says Noah “moved with fear.” Because his family saw HIM obeying God’s Word, THEY obeyed Noah’s word.

2. When LOT Spoke, His Family LAUGHED.

What a different reaction Lot received than Noah did. But Lot set himself up for failure from the beginning. The Bible says that Lot “lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered every where, before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah…Then Lot chose him all the plain of Jordan…” (Gen. 13:10-11).

Lot lived by gratifying his fleshy desires. Therefore, his family learned to do the same thing. So, Lot’s word of warning meant nothing to them.

What kind of an impact are you having on your family? How effective is your word as a parent? As a mother? As a father? Our children and grandchildren are watching us. May we be the example before them we need to be. May they see US obeying God’s Word so that THEY will obey it, too!
