It’s A Good Thing to Give Thanks

The Bible says in James 4:17, “Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.” If we know something is good to do and don’t do it, it becomes a sin. In Psalm 92:1, the Bible says, “It is a GOOD thing to give thanks unto the LORD, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High:”

Notice it says we are to “give” thanks.  This is supposed to be Thanks-GIVING, not Thanks-TAKING!  The ironic thing is that many of those who express their thankfulness today, for the things they DO have, will be fighting each other tomorrow over the things they do NOT have!

V.2) To shew forth thy lovingkindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night,

First, it mentions the “morning.” What better way to start the day off than with a thankful heart?  Someone said: “God has never stopped being GOOD, we’ve just stopped being GRATEFUL.” Then it mentions “every night.” What better way to end the day than being thankful for the faithfulness of God?

V.4) For thou, LORD, hast made me glad through thy work: I will triumph in the works of thy hands.

Notice the word “triumph.” It means to shout for joy. No doubt, as many watch their favorite football team play today, they will be shouting as they score another touchdown. The Bible says we should also be willing to shout because of the works of His hands. Then, just in case you forgot what He’s done, the Psalmist says in the next verse…

V.5) O LORD, how great are thy works! and thy thoughts are very deep.

If for no other reason, we should be thankful that the LORD thinks of us!   Jer. 29:11 says, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.”

V.6) A brutish man knoweth not; neither doth a fool understand this.

Only a fool would see all God has done and not be thankful. Therefore, when WE are not thankful, we are acting as foolish as one who does not see or understand all the LORD has done for us.

V.13) Those that be planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our God.

The Bible says that the happiest people, the people who are growing in the LORD, are the ones who are “planted in the house of the LORD.” A plant will not grow properly or be rooted properly if it is not planted properly.

Col 2:6-7 says, “As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:  7) Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.”

Today, as every day, remember that it is a GOOD thing to give thanks!
