Missing The Main Attraction

“The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,” (Eph. 1:18)

One year, my wife and I decided to take a two week vacation out west, which included Arizona and Nevada. While there, we took both of our boys with us and we made a trip to see the Grand Canyon. The day before we went to the Grand Canyon, a local told us a secret way to go that not many people know about and he said it would be less crowded than going in through the main entrance. He also told us that the way he suggested us go would also provide one of the best “first views” of the canyon.

We took his advice, and sure enough, there was little traffic that way and it was indeed a breath-taking first view of the canyon. I had seen pictures of it before, but none of them did it justice. As we made our way back around the canyon, we came to the Gift Shop, where everyone was trying to purchase souvenirs.

Could you imagine someone taking the time to drive all the way to the Grand Canyon, only to spend all of their time in the Gift Shop, never actually seeing the slender of the canyon, itself? That would be crazy! They would be missing the main attraction.

But, isn’t that the way many people treat Jesus? He has so many spiritual riches to offer us when we come to Him, yet we spend all of our time enamored with the “gift shops” of this world, missing out on the true riches that are in Christ.

Don’t get so busy doing good things that it takes your attention away from the main thing…JESUS!
