Stick On Jesus!

“Now there was leaning on Jesus’ bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved.” (John 13:23)

One Summer, my wife and I decided to spend our vacation in Washington, D.C. It was a great trip. We got to see so many wonderful sites which had tremendous historical significance. I wasn’t brave enough to drive all the way into D.C., knowing how much traffic we would encounter. Instead, we rode the Metro Train in every day and walked everywhere we went. It would have been nice to have had a tour guide to take us everywhere.

Thinking about our trip, I read about a tour guide who was directing visitors through a large city in his country, speaking to the group in broken English. As they went down one of the busiest streets in the city, he stopped and wanted to impress the importance of them staying close to him as they continued. Loudly he said to them, “Stick on me!”

That story made me think of John. John was not only a disciple whom Jesus loved, but he was also known as a disciple who greatly loved Jesus. Just about every time we hear of John, he is described as leaning on Jesus, as if he was ‘stuck’ on Jesus.

Boy, what a testimony to have that you and Jesus were so close you were inseparable! Sometimes we get so busy going about our daily duties that we allow many things to come between us and Jesus. We allow 101 things to keep us from the closeness that Jesus wants us to have with Him.

Today, beware of letting things hinder your walk with God. Don’t choose the immediate over the important. Stick on Jesus, today!
