The Secret To Overcoming Your Circumstances

“We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair;” (2Cor. 4:8)

There are few people who face more opposition and adverse circumstances than the Apostle Paul. And what was unique about Paul was that when you look at his life, you don’t see a person who complained about his circumstances; rather, you see a person who overcame every circumstance that he faced.

Despite facing troubles on every side, he said he was “not distressed” about it. He admitted that there were times when he was “perplexed” about his circumstances, but he was never “in despair.” So how did he do it? Here’s his secret.

First—Paul KEPT The Right PERSPECTIVE.

Often, we don’t see things as they are, but as we perceive them to be. Staying in the Word of God will help you keep the right perspective of your circumstances. It gives us the balance we need in life to see things from God’s viewpoint, not ours. Because he kept the right perspective, Paul didn’t look at the temporal; he looked at the eternal. He says in (v.18), “ ..we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.”

Second—Paul CHOSE A Right SPIRIT.

Despite the fact that he never seemed to go a day without facing some kind of adverse circumstance, he didn’t let it get him angry or bitter. You will never overcome your circumstances with a bad attitude. In fact, a bad attitude will only make your circumstances worse!

Third—Paul MAINTAINED A Strong FAITH.

He had faith in the future because He knew God was in control of his future. He had faith that no matter how bad today’s circumstances are, there’s a better day coming.

Your circumstances can either be stumbling blocks or stepping stones. Which ones will yours be?
