Two Mormons In A Thrift Store

Recently, my wife and I were browsing through a thrift store. I love to look at the book section because I can usually find some really good Bible study books for under a dollar. This day was no exception. While my wife was looking around the rest of the store, I was loading up on books.

As I was perusing their religious book section, I noticed two Mormon “elders” come up beside me to look at books. While they were standing there, I began thinking to myself, “What can I say to them, if we get into a conversation?” My mind was racing, searching for thoughts and scriptures I could give them.

Just then, one of them looked over at me and, seeing the stack of books I already had in my hand, said, “That’s a lot of books!” Just then, my wife stepped up and said, “That’s a lot of books” (For the record, it was only nine books). When she said that, the Mormons walked away.

But it did get me to thinking how that we should be ready to share the gospel with others whenever and wherever God opens up the opportunity. Peter said it this way:

“But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you…” (1Pet. 3:15)

Don’t let that verse scare you, It doesn’t say you should have an answer to every question a person asks you. It simply says that you should be ready to share with anyone “a reason of the hope that is in you.” If you have been saved, you have a hope of eternal life. Are you able to share with someone why you have that hope? Could you tell them how THEY can also have that hope?

Take some time to think through how you would share the gospel with someone. That way you will be better prepared should you ever encounter two Mormons in a thrift store.
