Waiting for a Word.

“And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying, Get thee hence, and turn thee eastward, and hide thyself by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan” (1Kings 17:2-3).

God used the brook to sustain Elijah for a while, but Elijah did not go there until “the word of the LORD came unto him” telling him where to go. Once the brook dried up, the Bible says, “And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying, Arise, get thee to Zarephath… and dwell there…”

THE LESSON: too often we move without a word from the LORD. We make decisions (even life-altering ones) without knowing whether or not it is God’s will for our lives. Elijah was arguably one of the greatest Old Testament prophets, yet he didn’t make a move until “the word of the LORD came unto him.”

Are you unsure about which direction to take next? Is the brook God led you to beginning to dry up? Don’t get ahead of God. Be patient and keep praying. Eventually, God will make His way plain. But until then, keep waiting for a word.
