Get ’em, God!

“Arise, O LORD, in thine anger, lift up thyself because of the rage of mine enemies: and awake for me to the judgment that thou hast commanded” (Ps. 7:6).

David wanted God to deal with his enemies, and deal with them severely! He wanted God to get angry at them for what they were doing to him.

This is something we all face. Today, it seems as if wickedness will triumph and the ungodly will get away with their ungodly actions. And it almost seems as if God is not concerned about it.

David was saying, “LORD, why haven’t you done anything? Why aren’t you bringing your judgment upon them swiftly and severely?” But notice (v.8) says, “The LORD shall judge the people…” It may not be when WE think it should happen, but God WILL judge the people.

We forget that God made us all free moral agents, meaning that we all have the freedom to choose to do good or evil. And while we often ask, “Why didn’t God stop that bad thing from happening?” We never stop to think, “Why didn’t God stop ME from some of the sins I’ve committed?”

See, God often allows wicked people to work out the evil that is in them. Romans 2:5 says God is allowing them to build up “wrath against the day of wrath.” In other words, God is keeping the score. He has an accurate record of every deed they are doing and it is accumulating on His tally sheet until one day, at the Judgment, His wrath will be poured out.

Don’t get so focused on the actions of the wicked that you lose sight of the godly life you should be living in the midst of this wickedness. God will take care of the wicked…but He will also take care of you, too!
