Help, Lord!

“Help, LORD; for the godly man ceaseth; for the faithful fail from among the children of men” (Ps. 12:1).

This was the first verse I read in my devotional time this morning and 3 great truths jumped out to me that I wanted to pass along. Let’s look at that verse in reverse order.

3) “..the faithful fail from among the children of men.”
The Psalmist reminds us not to put too much confidence in man because at some point even the most “faithful” of our friends and companions will fail us; they will let us down. If you put too much trust in man, you will eventually be disappointed.

2) “the godly man ceaseth…”
Be careful in putting too much trust even in “godly” men and women. Why? Because even at their best, they are STILL human, prone to weakness and failure. I’ve seen some the godliest men I know, abandon the ministry and cease preaching the Word.

So what should we do, then? The Psalmist starts the verse off with the answer.

1) “Help, LORD…”
You better learn to get your help from the LORD! Family and friends will fail you. Even the godly men may unintentionally let you down…BUT GOD NEVER FAILS! His Word is true; His faithfulness is everlasting!

Have you be disappointed by someone? Has it left you hurt and disillusioned? Do as the songwriter said:

Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.
