Living Above It All

“If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above…Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.” (Col. 3:1-2)

God never intended for us to live a life with our affections on this earth. He wants us to live a life that is above this old world. Paul says four things about our lives:

First—The TRANSFORMATION of Our Life.

(v.1a) “If ye then be risen with Christ.” You will never live the life God intended for you until you have first been saved (“risen with Christ.”). Salvation is the first step.

Second—The DIRECTION of Our Life.

(v.1b) “seek those things which are above…” The difference between a believer and an unbeliever is a believer seeks “things which are above.” So, which direction is YOUR life headed? Are you living for the things of this world or are you seeking “those things which are above…”

Third—The AFFECTION of Our Life.

(v.2) “Set your affection on things above…” The word “Set” means it is an action on our part. It is our responsibility. What captivates YOUR affection more? Earthly or Heavenly things? It is only when believers focus on the realities of heaven that they can then truly enjoy the world their heavenly Father has created.

Fourth—The PROTECTION of Our Life.

(v.3) “For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.” Notice it says, “ye are dead.” We are to be dead to the direction and affection of this world. Why? Because our life is to be “hid with Christ in God.” When we are “hid with Christ in God” that is where our focus will be; that is where our affection will be; that will be where our attention will be.

Are you living for what’s down here, or for what’s up there? Start living above it all, today.
