The Master is Come

“And when she had so said, she went her way, and called Mary her sister secretly, saying, The Master is come, and calleth for thee.” (John 11:28)

It had been four days since Lazarus had died and Jesus was not there. Have you ever gone through a trial and it seemed as if Jesus was far away? Have you ever faced a valley and you felt as though Jesus was not there? Mary and Martha had lost their brother, Lazarus. I’m sure they wondered where Jesus was and why He was not there to prevent Lazarus from dying in the first place. Then, right in the middle of their grief, Martha runs to Mary and says, “The Master is come!”

Oh, what a glad day when the Master came into this world! For thousands of years the Messiah had been prophesied; a deliverer had been promised. But century after century passed by with no Messiah in sight. Where is He? Does He not see the death, sorrow, pain, and grief sin has brought? Does He not see that sin and wickedness is running rampant.

Then one quiet night in a little stable at Bethlehem a baby is born. So miraculous was His birth that wise men came on a long journey just to see Him. As they stood around the manger beholding the very Son of God, maybe one of the onlookers turned to another and said, “The Master is come! The Messiah is finally here!”

Maybe you are going through a difficult trial right now and you are feeling all alone. Maybe Satan has whispered in your ear that Jesus is nowhere to be found. May I encourage you by reminding you that the Master is come! He’s right there with you and has promised to never leave nor forsake you.

Cry out to the Master. He knows your hurt and pain and will be with you through it all. Just give your hurt to Him.
